What is hydra?
Hydra is Plarium’s inept and egregious attempt at creating an unsolvable clan boss through the sheer number of mechanics attached to this boss rather than creating engaging and fun content.
Hydra takes the worst mechanics of the game and not only empowers them but creates a true souldestroying piece of content where minor things can end runs.
Tackling the beast
So how does one attempt at becoming a successful hydra slayer without making a deal with the devil?
First you need to clearly define what stage you want to make gains on as what makes you successful on lower stages (normal-hard) does most likely not translate to later stages (brutal-nightmare). This especially shows in terms of the viability of raw damage on lower difficulties which is greatly surpassed by max hp damage on later stages. With that in mind you are on the path to insanity victory.
Secondly you need to build your champions specifically with hydra in mind as what you need there is a very special brew of stats lying right in between Bommel 90 hard and impossible. For example, in order to both hit debuffs and resist normal hydra you will need 165 accuracy (not accounting for suffering’s 50 added resistance) and 355 resistance as a minimum.
Thirdly hydra is long form content and therefore damage mitigation is your best friend. To succeed in hydra, you will have to survive all the bullshit which hydra throws at you for an extended period. Therefore, stack your champions to their gills with defense and other ways of mitigation. What may seem like insignificant amounts of damage will by turn 100 most likely be your best source of damage.
Fourth and most importantly always do hydra manually if you want to get highest scores. Running auto teams will without a doubt end in a wipe and unlikely let you reach your highest potential. Lastly given the amount of mechanics hydra throws at you it may not be feasible for you to deal with all of them (or even half) therefore pick out those which you can handle and pucker your butt while going through the rest because it is going to be a bumpy ride.
